i love craigslist.

...so we wanted a juicer.
i looked on craigslist and found a pretty nice one.

an email and phone call later,
we are off to this guy's house in a nearby town,
pay the 25 bucks and we are on our way home, juicer in hand.

you may be asking, "but why do you like craigslist so much, that didn't sound like much fun."

i think it is the people you meet.
like the dude who is now relieved of said juicer.
he looked like a young karim abdul-jabbar just smaller in scale,
including the athletic glasses/goggles with the elastic head band.
now karim's house looked like a flea market exploded just before i walked in and it smelled like a little greasy diner, the kind built out of an old trolly car.
me: smells good in here (it did)
k.a.j.: yeah, we were just cooking dinner, hash browns, breakfast for dinner.
me: yeah you did. i love breakfast for dinner.
k.a.j.: here is the juicer (makes room on his kitchen counter and shows me how to take jack lalanne's juicer apart)
me: here is $25, thanks for the tour.

kareem didn't even walk me out,
it was like we were bud's and i was just going to the car to stash my new juicer and come back in to continue playing video games and maybe i could snack on his hash browns.
instead i just went to the car and drove home.
(the mrs., who was waiting in the car, immediately caught wind of the diner odor.)

...amazingly,
almost every craigslist encounter has that type of charm.

it is in that spirit i have made a list of things i have bought and sold on the 'list:

juicer, bought
small arm chair, sold (to kid who was came to pick it up with his dad)
kid (to dad): "so, what do you think?"
dad: "don't buy it."
me: "ha!"
the kid bought it anyway,
even though it smelled like my garage.

stereo (inc speakers, CD player and turntable), bought

i found a matching set of wing chairs on the side of the road in swansea ma and threw them in my car.
they were so old i told dave h. that they were once sat on by abe lincoln when he was a young boy. we even drew a picture of young abe and an official seal of history.
i later drew on the other chair a picture of john adams holding johns quincy adams on his lap, also with the official seal of history.
i did list in my ad,"a must for any history buff"

coffee table, sold

lawnmower, sold (the previous owners of the house left the one they had here, so i sold the one i bought a few months earlier, except i couldn't get it started when the guy came to pick it up. get this, the dude still bought it)

sofa and love seat, sold (the green aztec design sofas gill and i had on thames street)

foosball table, sold (to a woman for a birthday present for her husband)

i later sold this for $40 to a guy in a bar through a deal suZanne brokered.
